Regina Speed Skater Brings Home Bronze at World
Competition
Regina speed skater Terry Livingstone took home a bronze
medal in the 700m race at the World Special Olympic Winter Games this week
in Boise, Idaho, February 7-13, 2009.
"The competition was tough, especially when you haven't seen
the skaters from other countries," said Livingstone, who returned to Regina
early Sunday morning. "There was Russia, Japan, China, Hungary, Netherlands,
Germany and the United States. It was fun going stride-for-stride with the
best in the world."
Livingstone also placed sixth in the 500m and fifth in the
1000m. "In the 700m, I had to fight for that one," Livingstone said. "l was
fully drained - I had nothing left."
Terry has been a member of the Regina Speed Skating Club
since 1992. He has competed in several provincial and national meets, but
says the World competition was by far his most memorable experience.
As a dedicated member of the club, Terry returned to Regina
right after the competition to help at the Canadian Long Track Championship
at the Mount Pleasant Oval.
