- The

- Kali Christ is a finalist for the 2011 Sask Sports Female Athlete of the Year.
- The Regina Speed Skating Club is hosting a dinner Saturday, Jan. 21, after the
first day of the SaskEnergy Long Track Meet. Details are available
here.
- Speed Skating Canada announced the teams selected to
represent Canada at the next four international long track events, including the
World Sprint Championships at the Olympic Oval in Calgary on Saturday, Jan. 28
and Sunday, Jan. 29. Regina skaters Lucas Makowsky, Kali Christ, and Justin Warsylewicz
were selected as team members.
- At the 2012 Canadian Long Track Single Distance Championships at Calgary's Olympic Oval,
Lucas Makowsky won the Bronze in Men's 1,500 metres and Kali Christ won the
Bronze in the Women's 1,500 metres.
November 2011
- A Level 1 Official's course will be presented by Nicole and Wayne Fleming on
November 11
from 12pm-6pm at the Argyle Park Community Center, 35 Davin Crescent.
- A fundraising supper for the Hudey family, whose son Ian was in a serious car
accident, is being held Saturday, November 12. See the

- The Regina Speed Skating Club was a recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Jeux
Canada Games Foundation Inc. that was put towards some new crash mats.
- We wish the Hope family—Bruce, Marlene, Sean, and Stephen— the best
of luck in their new home in Trinidad. We'll miss you all!
March 2011
- The
March issue of the Saskatchewan Amateur Speed Skating Association

- Kali Christ finished first in the Canada Cup long track women's
speedskating tour, and broke the Canadian Junior record in the 1500m with a time
of 1:58.60 in the process. Mykola Makowsky also finished first in the
1500. See the Leader-Post article for details.

- Congratulations to our skaters who attended the 2011 Canadian Long Track Championship in Winnipeg:
- Ashlee Holmes won a bronze medal in 1000m Junior Women and was 5th overall in that group.
- Nyka Sutter was 8th overall in the 14 year old female T2T group.
- Sean Hope won a silver medal in the 100m and was 6th overall in the 15 year old male T2T group.
- Stephen Hope was 12th overall in the 13 year old male T2T group. He also won a bronze medal in the 3X400m relay with Lucas Conly and Jordan Ehman from Saskatoon.
- Emma Norman was 9th overall in the 14 year old female T2T group.
- Tenielle Workman was 8th overall in the 12 year old female T2T group.
- Congratulations to Kali Christ on her success at the Canadian Junior Championships in Winnipeg!
Kali won gold in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m distances. She also picked up silver in the 3000m. As a result of these performances, she was awarded Best Overall Junior Female at the Championships and will be representing Canada at the Junior World Championships in Finland later this month.

- The Regina Speed Skating Club is holding a fundraising Pasta Night at Alfredo's
on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $30, a portion of which goes back

- A poster outlining the new age
categories, race distances and track sizes is now available on the Saskatchewan
Speed Skating web site. The poster was created by Saskatchewan Speed
Skating in consultation with Speed Skating Canada.

"Fast is Fun" is a short track summer camp hosted by Saskatchewan Speed Skating

- Lucas Makowsky was named Sask Sport's Male Athlete of the Year; see the

- At the World Junior Championship in Moscow, Kali Christ of Regina finished
36th out of 57 in the 500m with a time of 41.43 (the first place time was
39.18). She was fifth out of the Canadian
girls. Kali was the top
Canadian in the 1500m with a 16th place finish overall, in a time of 2:04.4
(the winning time was 1:57.95).
- The Junior World Cup Final was held in Berlin March 5th & 6th. Kali Christ of
Regina finished 14th in the 3000m and 7th overall in the 1500. She was one of
three girls on the pursuit team that finished 5th. See our

- Lucas Makowsky wins an Olympic gold medal

Kali Christ of Regina won the junior ladies 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m at the
North American Long Track Speed Skating Championships/American Cup III at Salt
Lake City. Kali, who also finished second in the 3,000m,
qualifies as one of three junior women to represent Canada in the World Junior
Speed Skating Championships to be held March 12-14 in Moscow, Russia.
- A video
from the University of Calgary about the Olympic Torch relay includes Lucas
Makowsky (at about 1:16).

Canadian team speed skaters Lucas and Mykola Makowsky helped Coach
Bill Christ conduct a dry-land training session for the Regina Speed
Skating Club in Douglas Park this summer. The brothers are working
toward the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, but took time to help train
some up and coming speed skaters from their home club.
